Granada Cathedral, an impressive building in bright yellow and white.
It is located in the central plaza of Granada, an important historic city in Nicaragua.
Built as a church in the 16th century, it was destroyed in 1856, and after an interruption in reconstruction due to lack of funds, it took its present form in 1915.
From the outside, it features two red-roofed bell towers and one dome.
Once inside, there are three naves and four chapels.
The main attraction is a beautiful statue of Mary in front of a bright blue background.
There are statues and artifacts depicting figures associated with many other religions.
Granada is a thriving commercial city and a popular tourist destination.
In the adjacent Lake Nicaragua, there are plans to construct the Nicaragua Canal, which will connect the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
It is larger than the Panama Canal, but has run into difficulties due to lack of funds.
