The beautiful blue color of the old town of Chaweng, deep in the Rif Mountains of northern Morocco in North Africa, is impressive.
In the old town of Shaouen, from the walls of houses to the steps of streets, the city is colored in various shades of blue, from light blue to deep blue. There are many theories as to why this is so, but the most popular theory is that it is due to the Jews who were driven out of Spain and settled in Shaouen in the old days. Blue is a sacred color in Judaism. Therefore, they dyed their houses and streets blue when they built them.
When the State of Israel was established, most of the Jews in Shawen emigrated to Israel, but it is said that only the custom of dyeing the town blue remained.
Although the location is a little difficult to access, why not enjoy this beautiful town at least once?
